The Family Fish Farms Network, Inc. has signed an MOU entering into a social enterprise partnership with four other organizations forming the ESEI (Ethiopian Sustainable Economic Initiative)Social Enterprise Partnership. The partners in the undertaking are:
* The Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (OCFCU) of Ethiopia
* The US/African Diaspora Business Council
* Micro Venture Support, Inc.
* The Family Fish Farms Network, Inc.
The new organization will have access to the combined resources, knowledge, and skill of all four entities. ESEI’s mission is to employ the same process used by The OCFCU to raise the Coffee Farmers out of poverty, and to use that same methodology known as: “Virtuous Process=Virtuous Exchange to bring prosperity to these small holder farmers and fisher communities in the Lake Zwei region of Ethiopia.
The large 30 Kilometer lake will no longer support fishing as an occupation as all of the fish have been depleted . Furthermore, Papyrus, the other crop grown by these subsitance farmers has also been played out. There is the threat of famine and without government support it would already be underway.
ESEI plans to introduce both small and large scale aquaponics and aquaculture both as a sustenance and a commercial strategy to revive the regions economy and feed the hungry populations as well. ESEI will, as partners with the communities help create additional global products that can add to the local economy and the nations foreign exchange as well. This will also help diversify the income of the people so they will not be so easily impoverished in the future.
